Once results are ready, we’ll arrange a follow-up review (by phone or in person). If treatment is needed, we’ll prescribe and support you through it. In some cases, we may recommend repeat testing to ensure the infection has cleared.

Common STIs We Screen and Treat at WELLDOC

1. Chlamydia
   • A sexually transmitted infection (STI) is an infection passed from one person to another through sexual contact. This can happen during vaginal, anal, or oral sex without protection. Some STIs can also spread through skin-to-skin contact or by sharing unwashed sex toys.
   • Common and often symptom-free. - Can affect cervix, urethra, rectum, throat, or eyes.
   • Untreated, can cause infertility or pelvic inflammatory disease. - Testing: urine (men) or swabs (women).
   • Treatment: antibiotics.
2. Gonorrhoea
   • Spread through unprotected sex or unwashed toys.
   • May cause discharge, pain urinating, bleeding, or abdominal pain.
   • Untreated, can cause infertility and complications.
   • Testing: urine or swabs.
   • Treatment: antibiotics (sometimes injection).
3. Genital Herpes
   • Caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV-1 or HSV-2).
   • Painful blisters or sores, may recur.
   • Spread through skin-to-skin contact.
   • Testing: swab of sore.
   • Treatment: antivirals (control outbreaks, not cure).
4. Genital Warts (HPV)
   • Caused by HPV types 6 and 11.
   • Appear as small, painless growths.
   • Spread by skin-to-skin contact.
   • Treatment: creams, cryotherapy, or may resolve naturally.
   • Prevention: HPV vaccine.
5. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)
   • Weakens the immune system; untreated can progress to AIDS.
   • Spread through blood, semen, vaginal/anal fluids, breast milk.
   • Testing: blood test (may need repeat after 3–6 months).
   • Treatment: antiviral medication (lifelong management).
6. Hepatitis (A, B, C)
   • Viruses that inflame the liver.
   • Spread via sex, contaminated food/water (A), or blood (B & C).
   • Testing: blood test.
   • Prevention: vaccines for Hep A & B.
   • Treatment: varies; Hep C curable with antivirals.
7. Syphilis
   • Bacterial infection spread by direct contact with sores.
   • Can lead to serious complications if untreated.
   • Testing: blood test.
   • Treatment: antibiotics (injection).
8. Trichomonas Vaginalis (TV)
   • Caused by a parasite.
   • Can cause abnormal discharge or pain (especially in women).
   • Testing: swabs or urine.
   • Treatment: antibiotics.
